The journey from Gatwick Airport to London Kings Cross takes approximately, one hour when travelling with Thameslink. However, you must get off at London St Pancras Station and then walk two minutes to your destination.

Your route will take you north from Sussex up into Greater London. You’ll slowly notice the scenery change from twee villages and market towns into the suburbia of Greater London. It will then become increasingly busy and urban as you hit Central London, and then arrive at St Pancras International, Camden, in North London.

Departing from Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport is a simple station to depart from. It’s actually one of the busiest train stations in the UK outside of London, meaning that there are plenty of trains to get you to your final destination.

The train station itself is built into the South Terminal, so it’s only a short walk from there to the station from either arrivals or departures. Although if you’re in the North Terminal, you’ll need to take the shuttle bus to the South Terminal. Don’t worry, the shuttle service operates 24/7, seven days per week, and comes every few minutes.

Thameslink, Southern, Great Western Railway, and Gatwick Express all operate services that stop at this station. They run to destinations like Brighton, Southampton, City Thameslink, and London St Pancras International.

Main stops

Between Gatwick Airport and London St Pancras International, there are five stops: East Croydon, London Bridge, London Blackfriars, City Thameslink, and Farringdon. From St Pancras, it's just a two-minute walk to London Kings Cross. These stations may change, however, so it's worth checking before you travel. Sometimes, poor weather, scheduling adjustments, and engineering work can result in changes.

Arriving at London Kings Cross

Once you arrive at London St Pancras International, it’s only a short walk from there to reach London Kings Cross. It should only take two minutes, making the journey incredibly convenient if you have an ongoing connection from London Kings Cross.

If you need to travel elsewhere in London, there are plenty of buses and taxis available along Euston Road near both stations. Kings Cross London Underground Station serves the Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, Northern, Piccadilly, and Victoria lines, so that you can get around the rest of London in a flash via the tube. London Euston is also located just half a mile west on Euston Road.

The British Museum, the British Library, The Wellcome Collection, the Charles Dickens Museum, and the Grant Museum of Zoology are all near London Kings Cross if you’re in the mood for some culture.

London St Pancras International is a major hub with operators like Eurostar, East Midlands Railway, Thameslink, and Southeastern, offering services to key destinations such as Paris, Nottingham, Brighton, and Canterbury.

Thameslink train travel advice

• Luggage: Maximum of three items of luggage. This goes up to two larger items and one smaller bag. Two larger bags not exceeding 90 x 70 x 30 centimetres and an item of hand luggage are permitted on board.
• Pets: Dogs, cats, and other small animals can travel at no cost. Dogs are required to be on a lead, while other animals must be transported in carriers. Each passenger is allowed a maximum of two pets.
• Bicycles: Bikes can be stored free of charge, but space is limited. There is no need to pre-book. Folding e-bike and manual scooter allowed, e-scooter, e-unicycle, e-skateboard, and hoverboard banned.
• Children: For children under 5, travel is free, and those between 5 and 15 receive a 50% fare reduction. The Family & Friends Railcard can reduce family ticket costs by up to one-third.
