ouigo

Travelling with OUIGO Spain means opening the door to a new form of train travel: quick, comfortable and accessible to everyone. Since its arrival in 2021, this subsidiary of SNCF France has revolutionised high-speed rail in Spain with tickets from just €9, strategic routes that connect major cities and a modern experience that combines efficiency with affordability.

OUIGO was founded in France in 2013 with the objective of democratising access to high-speed train travel, and quickly became synonymous with low-cost travel without sacrificing speed. Today, OUIGO connects Madrid to Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Seville or Malaga with stops in cities like Zaragoza, Córdoba, Tarragona and Cuenca—and its network is still growing.

At TrainPal, you’ll find everything you need to know to plan your next trip with OUIGO: ticket types, on-board facilities, available routes, OUIGO promo codes, OUIGO discounts and practical advice for getting the cheapest train tickets.

Travelling with OUIGO

OUIGO is SNCF’s answer to low-cost, high-speed train travel. Its model is characterised by high-capacity trains (more than 500 seats across two levels) and a system of optional add-ons: passengers only pay for what they need.

The company launched in Spain in May 2021 with its Madrid–Barcelona line and quickly expanded its network to other key routes. Amidst competitors like Renfe or iryo, OUIGO offers more affordable prices, a simplified service and add-ons adapted to each passenger’s needs.

OUIGO destinations and routes in Spain

OUIGO currently offers connections across a wide network of Spanish cities that spans both large urban centres and strategic provincial capitals. Its trains link Madrid (Atocha and Chamartín-Clara Campoamor) to Barcelona-Sants, as well as destinations like Valencia-Joaquín Sorolla, Alicante-Terminal, Sevilla-Santa Justa, Málaga-María Zambrano, Córdoba-Central and Albacete-Los Llanos. With these connections, OUIGO goes beyond just linking the Mediterranean coast to central Spain and Andalucía: it also brings high-speed rail to Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla y León, while also boosting popular routes like Madrid–Barcelona and Madrid–Valencia. OUIGO Ticket Types

OUIGO offers its passengers various ticket types that adapt to the needs of each traveller, from those looking for the most affordable option to passengers who want maximum flexibility and comfort. There are currently three main levels: Esencial (Essential), OUIGO Plus and OUIGO Max.

Essential ticket

The Esencial ticket is OUIGO’s most basic, cost-effective option, ideal for budget-conscious passengers who still value speed and comfort. This fare allows you to make changes on the same journey up to 30 min before departure for a €30 fee per passenger plus the difference in fare, although refunds are not permitted.

Passengers must bring their ticket in print or downloaded to the app for boarding, along with a valid ID. Boarding closes 5 min before departure, so make sure you arrive with sufficient time. As for luggage, the fare includes one personal item up to 36x27x15cm and one cabin bag measuring 55x35x25cm, to be placed overhead or in designated luggage areas.

You may also purchase extra add-ons. For just €7, you can make changes free of charge, with just the difference in fare due. You may also choose your seat for €4 or add extra luggage from €6.

OUIGO Plus Ticket

OUIGO Plus is designed for passengers who want extra comfort and services during their trip. It shares the same modification conditions as the Esencial Ticket—up to 30 min before departure for €30 plus difference in fare—but with benefits that make for a more pleasant journey.

You may bring one personal item, one cabin bag as well as one XL suitcase up to 200cm and 25kg, making this a convenient option for passengers with lots of baggage. Seat selection is free and even includes XL seats without any additional charge.

Other notable benefits include free access to the OUIFUN entertainment platform and onboard Wi-Fi for a more connected, entertaining trip. As with Esencial tickets, you can increase flexibility for €7 and add luggage starting at €6.

OUIGO Max Ticket

OUIGO Max is the most comprehensive ticket and is designed for passengers who want restriction-free travel. It includes a personal item, a cabin bag and an XL suitcase with dimensions up to 200cm and 30kg, offering the highest luggage capacity available with OUIGO.

OUIGO Max passengers may select any seat free of charge and enjoy unlimited access to the OUIFUN entertainment platform and the onboard Wi-Fi network. This fare also guarantees maximum flexibility: passengers may make unlimited free date and time changes, with partial cancellation refunds possible.

These benefits make OUIGO Max the perfect option for anyone looking for a premium travel experience on a low-cost, high-speed service, combining comfort, connectivity and total flexibility.

OUIGO Offers and Discounts

As part of some campaigns, OUIGO publishes promo codes that can be applied to ticket purchases for additional discounts. These are announced on their website, app and social media.

As a general rule, the most common discounts for OUIGO passengers include free travel for kids under 3 (when travelling on their parent's lap), €5 fixed fares for 4–13-year-olds and reduced fares for 14 to 25-year-olds on certain routes.

OUIGO also runs OUIGO Pink Days, which are special days when thousands of tickets go on sale from as little as €9 on routes like Madrid–Barcelona or Madrid–Valencia. These are very popular and sell out in hours.
