• The Platform Tip: Avanti West Coast trains to Liverpool usually depart from the mid-to-high numbered platforms. Do however check the departure boards before heading through, as platforms are not announced until shortly before boarding.

• The View Alert: For the best scenery, try to sit on the left-hand side of the train as you head north. Keep an eye out as the line approaches Cheshire, as you may catch glimpses of the River Mersey estuary before the final stretch into Liverpool.
• Key Landmarks: After leaving London, the train heads through the Midlands, with a glimpse of Lichfield Cathedral’s three spires near Lichfield Trent Valley. Crossing Staffordshire and Cheshire, the line then passes near Runcorn, where you may spot the Silver Jubilee Bridge over the River Mersey.

Arriving at Liverpool Lime Street

Right in the heart of Liverpool city centre, Liverpool Lime Street railway station is the city’s main rail gateway, and with its vast Victorian iron-and-glass trainshed, one of the most impressive railway interiors in the UK.

• The Main Exit: Head towards Lime Street for the quickest route into the city. Directly opposite the station, you’ll see the grand façade of St George’s Hall. Liverpool’s shops, restaurants and nightlife are all just a short walk away.
• City Centre Direction: Walk downhill along Lime Street to reach Liverpool ONE shopping district, the waterfront and the Albert Dock area. Most major attractions, including the Cavern Quarter and Liverpool’s museums, are around a 10-15 minute walk from the station.
• Onward Travel: Taxi ranks and bus stops are located outside the station entrance on Lime Street. Local buses run to Liverpool ONE bus station and connections for Liverpool John Lennon Airport are available from there. If you’re travelling further, the Merseyrail Wirral Line platforms are located below the main station and connected by subway from the concourse.
