Located just over a mile away from the main campus, the nearest train station to the University of Bristol is Bristol Temple Meads. With frequent national services from London and other major UK cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Exeter, and Cardiff, Bristol Temple Meads offers convenient access for both students and visitors.

Situated west of the city centre, the University of Bristol is easily reached from the station by regular bus services, which take around 15 minutes. You can also make the scenic uphill walk to campus in just around 25 minutes.

Bristol Temple Meads sits on key national rail routes and is served by both Great Western Railway and CrossCountry. The station offers essential amenities, including ticket machines, help points, accessible toilets and waiting areas, as well as a variety of food, drink and retail outlets.

London to the University of Bristol trains

There are frequent train services covering the 120-mile journey between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads. Trains start at approximately 5:20 a.m. and finish around 11:30 p.m. The journey takes just under 1 hour and 40 minutes. Upon arrival at Bristol Temple Meads, it’s then just a quick 30-minute bus ride or 35-minute walk to the University of Bristol. The route is served by Great Western Railway, which offers First Class travel on many services, complete with spacious seating, at-seat power outlets, and complementary refreshments. Major stops along the way include Slough, Reading, Swindon and Bath Spa.

Manchester to the University of Bristol trains

Trains run between Manchester Piccadilly and Bristol Temple Meads from around 5:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Covering roughly 200 miles, the journey takes just over three hours with a direct CrossCountry service. First Class tickets are available, offering more spacious seating as well as complimentary non‑alcoholic drinks and snacks. Key stops include Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham New Street and Cheltenham Spa.

Edinburgh to the University of Bristol trains

There are direct CrossCountry services between Edinburgh Waverley and Bristol Temple Meads from 6:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and it takes around 6 hours and 30 minutes to cover the 400‑mile journey. First Class on CrossCountry services offers spacious reclining seats with extra legroom, free Wi‑Fi, power sockets, and complementary drinks and snacks. Major stops include Newcastle, York and Leeds.
