Getting to the University of Warwick by train

The University of Warwick is one of the top ten universities in the UK and has an excellent reputation for its research and teaching standards. Located on the outskirts of Coventry on the border of the West Midlands and Warwickshire, the campus is set in a beautiful expanse of countryside, lakes and woodland, offering an excellent refuge from hectic university life.

Thanks to its central location, the University can be easily accessed from many parts of the UK by train. So you can do away with looking for parking and spend the journey how you please – be it enjoying a little rest or catching up on your studies.

Below, we break down everything you need to know about train travel to the University of Warwick – from the closest station to arrive at, to route and operator details, as well as some tips for cheap train tickets.
University of Warwick

Arriving at the Coventry station

It’s worth noting that this University is not located in Warwick town, and therefore Warwick station is not the closest station to the University of Warwick. However, you do have a choice of stations, depending on where you’re coming from. The nearest mainline station to the campus is Coventry rail station at four miles away. If you’re local to the region, Canley and Tile Hill stations are closer, but trains are less frequent.

For those coming from further afield, Coventry station offers frequent bus services to the University of Warwick – just jump on the National Express X12. The journey takes around 14 minutes, or you can head to the taxi rank outside the station and get there in about 11 minutes.
Coventry station is served by Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry and West Midlands Trains, so you have plenty of options for travel. These operators offer links to many local destinations, such as Rugby, Leamington Spa and Nuneaton. You’ll also find popular routes to major cities like Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow.

As well as the usual ticket office and ticket machines, Coventry station features a multi-storey car park, Cycle Hub bicycle storage and shops and refreshment facilities.

(Don’t be fooled by the name of the University – it’s not located in Warwick town, so Warwick station isn’t exactly ideal for getting there, at a two and a half hour walk away with limited transport links)

The University of Warwick is located 4 km (2.5 miles) from Coventry station. Although this makes it slightly too long to walk comfortably, there are frequent bus services between the two, taking as little as 12 minutes.
