Manchester Airport offers plenty of transport options, including bus, tram and coach. Its railway station is a short distance from all terminals. Thanks to the Skylink walkway, you can get from the passenger terminal to the platform in five minutes from Terminal 1 or 5–8 minutes from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3.

Direct trains from Manchester Airport station connect passengers to towns and cities such as Llandudno, Glasgow and Carlisle. Services are either operated by Northern, Transport for Wales (TfW) or TransPennine Express.

Arriving at East Didsbury

Trains from Manchester Airport to East Didsbury serve the Mancunian suburb of Didsbury. The charming neighbourhood has a village feel but no shortage of dining spots, artisanal shops, parks and river paths. Don’t miss the incredible greenery in Fletcher Moss Botanical Garden. East Didsbury station is close to the Metrolink tram stop bearing the same name. There are also several bus routes serving the city centre and Greater Manchester.

Rail services from East Didsbury are operated by Northern and Transport for Wales (TfW). Trains take passengers to and from Manchester Piccadilly, Liverpool Lime Street, Rhyl, and other stations.

Northern train classes

Only Standard Class accommodation is available on Northern’s services. In your carriage, you’ll find comfortable seats and luggage storage racks. Newer trains also provide free Wi-Fi access. Tickets can typically be purchased 12 weeks in advance, so book early to buy cheap train tickets.

Northern train travel advice

• Luggage: A reasonable amount of luggage per passenger is allowed on board. Keep all items in the luggage racks or under your seat.
• Bicycles: Bike spaces are given on a first-come, first-served basis. E-scooters are banned.
• Children: Under-5s travel free with an adult. 5–15-year-olds and teens with a 16–17 Saver Railcard get most tickets half price. The Family and Friends Railcard also offers discounts for groups.
• Pets: You can travel with up to two pets. Keep them off seats and in a carrier or on a lead.
• Passenger Assist: Northern staff are ready to help you board/alight the train, etc. at the station or book assistance.

Who says airport transfers have to be long? On a Transport for Wales train, you’ll get from Manchester Airport to East Didsbury in only six minutes. Services run once an hour, passing Greater Manchester’s suburbs.

Transport for Wales (or TfW) offers rail services across Welsh towns and cities as well as popular English railway stations like Birmingham New Street and Manchester Piccadilly. Stations on its network include Newport, Chester and Swansea.

• Standard Class: Amenities in Standard Class include comfortable seating and luggage storage. Free Wi-Fi is available on most trains in addition to power sockets at every pair of seats. Passengers can buy food and drink from the food bar or trolley. Book as soon as possible to buy cheap train tickets.
• First Class: Transport for Wales does not currently provide First Class accommodation for services from Manchester Airport to East Didsbury. First Class carriages on other trains have larger, more comfortable seating. Some routes also serve complimentary refreshments. 

Transport for Wales train travel advice 

• Luggage: Each passenger is allowed up to two large bags and one smaller piece of hand luggage (e.g., handbag or backpack). 
• Bicycles: Limited bike spaces are available, and they’re free to book. E-bikes are permitted, but e-scooters are banned. 
• Children: Under-11s travel for free. 11–15-year-olds can also get free travel on off-peak services with an adult. Most fares are 50% off for 16–17 Saver Railcard holders. 
• Pets: Up to two pets can travel with you, so long as they do not disturb or endanger other passengers. 
• Passenger Assist: Request help, such as using ramps, at least two hours before departure. Staff can also assist you on the day.
