Milan Malpensa Airport is located 50 km (30 miles) northwest of Milan and is the largest international airport serving the city and its surrounding areas of Lombardy, Piedmont and Liguria. It is one of three airports operating flights in Milan, the other two being Linate Airport and Milan Bergamo Airport. It is made up of two separate terminals and serves a total of 168 airlines.

Terminal 1: the larger, primary terminal for most international, intercontinental and domestic flights across various airlines.

Terminal 2: the smaller terminal exclusively used by the low-cost airline easyJet.

Malpensa Express

diThe Malpensa Express is operated by Trenord and connects Milan’s main train stations – Milan Central, Milan Porta Garibaldi and Milan Cadorna – with Milan Malpensa Airport. This convenient rail service operates two routes serving both terminals at Malpensa, with journeys taking between 35 and 55 minutes, depending on route. One-way tickets cost £13.65.

The Milan Central to Malpensa Airport route takes about 51 minutes and departs at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour. Along the way, the train calls at stations including Milan-Porta Garibaldi, Milan-Bovisa Politecnico, Saronno, Rescaldina, Castellanza, Busto Arsizio e Ferno-Lonate Pozzolo – some stops are only called at every hour, so make sure to check your route.

The Milan Cadorna to Malpensa Airport route takes about 37 minutes, departing at 27 and 57 minutes past the hour. This route operates from 03:27 to 00:57 towards the airport and from 04:20 to 01:50 towards Milan Cadorna. Stops on this route include Milan Bovisa, Saronno and Busto Arsizio Nord.

Milan Malpensa Airport train stations

Malpensa Airport is home to two train stations that connect you to Milan city centre – one at Terminal 1, and another at Terminal 2.

Terminal 1

Malpensa Terminal 1 train station is located on Floor -1 and has four platforms. From here, you can quickly reach the gates via walkways, lifts, and escalators.

Terminal 1 is the larger terminal and hosts the majority of flights. When you return to the airport for your flight home, you'll find a large shopping area with duty-free outlets, boutiques, bars and restaurants, as well as VIP services, such as lounges and the Malpensa Center, designed for business travellers.

Terminal 2

The train station at Malpensa T2 is located underground and can be reached from the external walkway located in front of Arrivals.

Terminal 2 exclusively handles flights operated by easyJet. Despite being the smaller of the two terminals, it still offers all essential passenger services, such as shops, bars, a pharmacy and a VIP lounge, which can be accessed with a pre-booking by passengers on both Schengen and non-Schengen flights.

Malpensa Airport by bus

Taking the Malpensa Airport bus is an easy and convenient way to get to and from Milan, as well as a number of other cities.

From Milan Central
Direct buses to Malpensa Terminals 1 and 2 run every 20 to 30 minutes and are offered by four companies: Terravision, Malpensa Bus Express (Autostradale), Malpensa Shuttle (Air Pullman) and Caronte. Buses depart via Sammartini between 03:20 to 00:50 towards Malpensa Airport and from 05:00 to 02:40 towards Milan Central. A one-way ticket costs €10 (about £8.70). Malpensa Bus Express and Malpensa Shuttle also stop at Fiera Milano City.
From Bergamo

The Orio Shuttle service connects Bergamo to Malpensa Airport by bus, which also stops at Milan Bergamo Airport and Monza. There are seven departures a weekday in each direction, with five on weekends. Tickets cost €20 (about £17.30).

From other locations

In addition to regional connections to Castelnovate, Gallarate, Cardano, and Somma Lombardo (TPL Saco), the main inter-city destinations reachable by bys are: Turin (Flibco, Airport Bus), Novara (STN), Domodossola (Comazzi), and Genoa (Volpi).
