Standard, Standard Premium or First Class — What to choose?

Standard Class

Standard Class includes free Wi-Fi, power sockets at seats, and access to the onboard shop where you can buy drinks and snacks. Carriages can get busy on Friday afternoons and during major events in Liverpool or London.

Standard Premium

A middle-ground option available on Pendolino services, Standard Premium offers roomier seats with extra legroom and a guaranteed table, plus plug sockets at every window seat. It does not include complimentary food or drink, and there is no lounge access.

First Class

First Class offers a quieter, more spacious carriage with complimentary food and drink served at your seat, including dishes made with locally sourced ingredients. First Class lounges are available at both London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street, where you can relax for up to two hours before departure with free Wi-Fi and complimentary refreshments.

What is the luggage allowance?

Avanti West Coast allows one item of hand baggage plus up to two additional items per passenger. Bags should be no larger than 30cm x 70cm x 90cm. Smaller bags can be stored in the overhead racks, while larger cases should go in the dedicated luggage areas at the ends of each carriage. 

How often does the Liverpool to London train run?

The route heads northwest from London, passing through the rolling countryside of the Midlands before the landscape opens out across the Cheshire Plain. As the train approaches Merseyside, the urban skyline of Liverpool gradually comes into view across the flatlands.

Departure from Liverpool Lime Street

Liverpool Lime Street station is known for its splendid Victorian façade, which opens directly onto Lime Street, with St George's Hall standing opposite. As you enter the station, you'll find the ticket offices and self-service machines readily accessible, with all platforms located at the far end of the concourse.

• Lime Street is directly connected with the rest of the city through the Merseyrail network, providing access to local services across Merseyside. Several bus routes also serve the station, including the 10A and 18 routes to Liverpool ONE bus station.

• Getting to your platform is quite straightforward — all platforms are at the far end of the main concourse. Check the departure boards and, if you have any luggage to drop off, you can store it at the designated luggage storage area near the entrance to the platforms.

The scenic side

The route heads southeast from Liverpool, passing through the flat agricultural plains of Cheshire before the landscape opens out across the rolling countryside of the Midlands. As the train passes through Staffordshire and continues towards the Midlands heartland, the countryside grows more open. South of Rugby, the landscape gradually transitions into the flatter commuter belt of Hertfordshire, with increasingly suburban scenery as the train approaches London.

Key landmarks

Watch out for the distinctive outline of Jodrell Bank Observatory near Macclesfield — the giant Lovell Telescope, one of the largest steerable radio telescopes in the world, is visible from the line on a clear day shortly after leaving Cheshire. 

Arriving at London Euston

London Euston is located on Euston Road in the Borough of Camden, in the northern part of central London. It opens directly onto Euston Road, one of the city's main arterial roads. 

The exits

• Euston Road Exit (Main Exit): The primary exit opens directly onto Euston Road and into central London. This is the quickest route to the British Museum, Bloomsbury, and the West End via Tottenham Court Road.
• Melton Street Exit: A secondary exit on the east side of the station, useful for reaching King's Cross St Pancras Underground station and the King's Cross area.
• Eversholt Street Exit: The rear exit provides access to taxi ranks and local buses serving the surrounding area.

Onward Travel

• London Underground: Euston is directly connected via the Victoria and Northern lines (Bank and Charing Cross branches), making it reachable to virtually anywhere in central London. Multiple other Underground lines are accessible via short walks to nearby stations.
• Buses: Several bus routes serve the station from Euston Road, connecting to major hubs like Oxford Circus, Trafalgar Square, and King's Cross.
• Taxis: Large taxi ranks are located outside the main Euston Road entrance and on Eversholt Street.

Walkability

The British Museum is approximately a 10-minute walk towards Bloomsbury. The West End theatres are around 15 minutes' walk via Tottenham Court Road. King's Cross St Pancras station is a 5-minute walk to the east.
