Departing from Birmingham International

A popular, fast and easy train from Birmingham International to London Euston sets off from Birmingham International Station. The station is conveniently located between Birmingham Airport, the National Exhibition Centre, Resorts World Birmingham and bp pulse live (formerly Birmingham International Arena). It’s a straightforward walk from any of these big attractions, and the airport can be reached in just two minutes via the free ‘Air-Rail Link’ monorail. With so many destinations next to Birmingham International Station, it's no wonder that it forms a popular route to London.

There are two trains per hour running to Birmingham New Street, to take you into the heart of the city. Plus, you can reach nearby Coventry, Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Blackpool, Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh via Avanti West Coast services. London Northwestern Railway run similar London to Birmingham routes, with many local services, too. CrossCountry services run to Manchester, Bournemouth and Reading, among others, while Transport for Wales heads to Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth or Holyhead.

Main stops

Avanti West Coast services mostly just stop at Coventry. However, some trains will stop at two or three other places as well, with a combination of Rugby, Milton Keynes Central and Watford Junction.

West Midlands Trains services usually stop at 12 stations: Hampton-in-Arden, Berkswell, Tile Hill, Canley, Coventry, Rugby, Long Buckby, Northampton, Wolverton, Milton Keynes Central, Bletchley and Leighton Buzzard. Some services only call at nine stations (missing Wolverton, Bletchley and Leighton Buzzard) and some add Watford Junction as their last call for a total of 13.

Arriving at London Euston

The cheapest Birmingham International to London Euston trains arrive at London Euston Station. Located in Central London, destinations across the capital are reachable from the integrated London Underground station or by the numerous bus stops directly outside.

Euston boasts connections to many destinations itself, mainly along the West Coast Mainline and heading into the South West and Wales. It is also within walking distance of King's Cross and St Pancras International Stations. Other London stations are a Tube ride away, meaning that almost every major UK destination is reachable by train from Euston Station.

Avanti West Coast train travel advice

If you're heading from Birmingham International to London Euston, it's worth looking to see if you can buy cheap train tickets with a Railcard. There are many different types available, such as the Two Together Railcard, and they could save you a third off your rail travel!

• Luggage: If you just have a small bag, you can pop it on the floor under your seat. Bigger bags go overhead, and full-sized suitcases will be happiest in the dedicated luggage racks. Perfect if you've just flown into Birmingham Airport.
• Bicycles: If you're planning to cycle around London, make sure you book a space for your cycle on board the train; otherwise, it won't be allowed on board.
• Children: Buggies can be folded and stored in the usual luggage spaces. Changing facilities are provided on each train.
• Pets: Up to two pets can travel with an adult passenger. You can keep dogs on a lead, and they need to be well-behaved! Other animals must be kept in a big enough, secure carrier. If they take up a seat, there'll be an extra charge.

West Midlands Trains travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring up to three items of luggage. There are the usual luggage spaces in each carriage - racks for large cases, overhead shelves for medium items and underseat storage for small bags.
• Bicycles: London Northwestern Trains doesn't insist on reservations for bike spaces, but they are very limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Folding bikes can be carried at any time if they're stored as luggage, but full-sized bikes can't be carried on peak-time trains.
• Children: The good news about travelling with kids is that they get a big discount on buying cheap train tickets! Under-5s go for free (but they might need to sit on your lap on busy trains) while 5- to 15-year-olds get 50% off.
• Pets: Two dogs or small domestic animals can go with you. They must be kept in a suitable carrier. The only exception is for dogs, which can be kept on a lead. Pets (and carriers) aren't allowed on the seats, and they must not inconvenience other passengers.
• Passenger Assist: You can book the assistance you need round-the-clock. While it is possible to simply turn up and request help, it's best to book in advance, either by phone or online.
