• Refund: You can claim a refund if you choose not to travel due to a train cancellation. In simple terms, you’re getting the cost of your ticket back because the journey you planned to make cannot go ahead. For example, if your train is cancelled but you board the next available service and arrive at your destination only ten minutes late, your compensation entitlement will reflect that ten-minute delay, not the cancellation itself.

Delay Repay is a nationwide compensation scheme that compensates passengers based on how late they arrive at their final destination. Most operators offer compensation for delays of 15 minutes or more, though some older schemes start at 30 minutes. • Your train is cancelled, and you board the next service, arriving 20 minutes late: You may be entitled to 25% of your single ticket price through Delay Repay.
• Your train is cancelled, and the next available service means you arrive 90 minutes late: You could be entitled to between 50% and 100% of your single ticket price, depending on the operator.
• Your train is cancelled, and you choose not to travel: You need to apply for a refund from your original retailer rather than compensation through Delay Repay.

If your train is cancelled and you still need to reach your destination, operators will in most cases allow you to travel on a later service on the same route, accepting your existing ticket for that journey.
