South Western Railway is the station's main operator with trains to London, Bournemouth and Portsmouth. CrossCountry also stops here with its services to Birmingham and Manchester. The station serves both the airport and business parks nearby, so it's busy during weekday rush hours. Most London trains run every 30 minutes throughout the day.

Arriving at London Waterloo

London Waterloo is one of Britain's busiest stations and is located just moments from the South Bank of the Thames. When you arrive, you'll find yourself in the centre of town - the London Eye is just a 10-minute walk away and from there you can cross Westminster Bridge towards Big Ben and the Strand.

The station has excellent transport links thanks to the Underground station. The Waterloo & City line takes you straight to Bank in the City, while the Jubilee, Northern and Bakerloo lines offer connections to the rest of the capital. If you need other mainline stations, it's a short tube ride to Victoria, Paddington or King's Cross.

South Western Railway uses Waterloo as its London hub, with trains heading to Surrey, Hampshire, Dorset and Devon. You'll use this station to visit attractions like Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens.

You can choose from either Standard Class or First Class on this service from Southampton to London.

• Standard Class: Gives you comfortable seats with decent legroom, tables at most seats and free Wi-Fi on newer trains. You'll find power sockets too, though not always at every seat.
• First Class: Offers wide leather seats with extra legroom and large tables - perfect if work is on the cards. Some trains even have wireless charging pads built into the tables. Free Wi-Fi is usually available.

• Bags: You can bring a reasonable amount of luggage that fits in the overhead racks or luggage areas. Just make sure bags don't obstruct aisles or doors.
• Bicycles: Bikes are allowed on a first-come, first-served basis on off-peak trains. There are 2-3 bike spaces per train. You can't bring them on peak-time trains arriving at Waterloo between 07:15-10:00 Monday to Friday.
• Children: Kids under 5 travel free, and 5-15 year olds go for half price. Children aged 16 to 17 also get this discount if they have a Saver Railcard.
• Pets: You can bring up to 2 pets for free with you on trains to Waterloo - dogs need to be on leads and small animals in carriers. For the comfort of other passengers, pets can't sit on seats.
