The station has step-free access via lifts. There are accessible toilets next to platform 3, 14 and 15. Baby changing facilities are next to platform 15. You'll also find a sheltered waiting area, refreshments, shops and free Wi-Fi. 

  • Parking: There are 374 spaces, including 25 accessible bays, and prices start from £14.30 per day.
  • Bikes: The long stay car park has 264 spaces and there's a further 116 spots by Queen Anne Gate on Station Approach. All are covered by CCTV. 
  • Pets: If your dog needs a walk before the journey, the Bristol Floating Harbour path is about 5 minutes from the main entrance — turn left out onto Station Approach and follow the road down to the harbourside. Castle Park is around 10 minutes north-east as an alternative.

Onboard trains from Bristol Temple Meads to Southampton Central

Trains from Bristol to Southampton go down the Wessex Main Line and call at Bath Spa, Bradford-on-Avon, Trowbridge, Westbury, Warminster, Salisbury and Romsey before reaching Southampton Central. There are a few services that stop at Oldfield Park, Keynsham, Freshford, Avoncliff, Melksham and Dilton Marsh — check your timetable before travel.
  • Best side for views: Sit on the left-hand side facing forward for the Limpley Stoke Valley between Bath Spa and Bradford-on-Avon.  Along this stretch, you'll see wooded hillsides and the Kennet & Avon Canal.
  • Right-side views: On the right, you'll get views of Wiltshire farmland from Trowbridge onwards, and the Wylye Valley between Warminster and Salisbury.
  • The "you're nearly there" cue: Romsey is the last stop. After that, the train crosses the River Test and runs through the city suburbs into Southampton Central.

Arriving at Southampton Central

Southampton Central station is on Blechynden Terrace, on the western edge of the city centre. Trains from Bristol usually arrive at Platform 1 or 2 (sometimes 2B). Both exits are street level.
  • North exit (Blechynden Terrace): Use this for the city centre and WestQuay shopping (10–15 minutes via Western Esplanade and New Road). The Mayflower Theatre is around 12 minutes on foot, with Watts Park, SeaCity Museum, the City Art Gallery and Southampton Solent University all 10–15 minutes away.
  • South exit (Western Esplanade): Use this for Southampton Cruise Port, which is 20–30 minutes on foot or 5–10 minutes by taxi.
