Departing from York

York station has direct TransPennine Express services to Manchester Victoria. Other destinations include Sunderland, Aberdeen, Birmingham and Plymouth. Trains are operated by TransPennine Express, Northern, CrossCountry, Grand Central and London North Eastern Railway (LNER).

Located on Station Road, it is 15 minutes away from the city centre on foot. Cabs drop passengers off at the taxi rank in front of the station. Local buses also stop on the same street.

TransPennine Express train travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring up to one item of hand luggage and two larger bags (30 x 70 x 90 centimetres max.).
• Bicycles: Booking a space for your bike or e-bike is mandatory. TransPennine Express doesn’t permit e-scooters and similar devices. You mustn’t charge e-bikes on board.
• Children: Two kids under the age of 5 can travel for free with an adult. Most Advance fares are half price for 5–15-year-olds. Other savings are on offer with the 16–17 Saver Railcard and Family and Friends Railcard. Buggies should be folded and put in the luggage racks or cycle area (when not booked).
• Pets: Two dogs or small domestic animals can board as long as they’re on a lead or in a secure carrier. They shouldn’t occupy seats.
• Passenger Assist: Contact TransPennine Express’s Passenger Assist Team to request help for your journey (e.g., transferring between trains). Pre-booking before you travel is recommended.
