There's no catering on Southeastern trains, so grab your food, snacks and drinks before you board — luckily, St Pancras is full of well-known supermarkets and chain restaurants.

• Getting to the station:
  Victoria line: Take this if you're coming from Oxford Circus, Green Park, Battersea Park, Vauxhall or Brixton. For those coming from Victoria line stops north of Euston, hop off at King's Cross St Pancras and pick up the Broadstairs train there instead.

• District & Circle lines: It's an easy ride from South Kensington, Gloucester Road, Notting Hill Gate, Ealing and Embankment. If you're at Liverpool Street or Tower Hill, go to Stratford and catch the Broadstairs train from there instead.

• Accessibility: Passenger Assistance Meeting Points are available from platforms 1 to 7. It's a fully step-free station, with three accessible toilets on the central concourse, one by the station reception and another by the Victoria Shopping Gallery.

• Don't miss: Buckingham Palace is a 10-minute walk away — turn left out of the main exit, then right onto Buckingham Palace Road, and keep going until you see it. If you have time, you can catch the Changing of the Guard on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 11:00 AM, and the Captain's Inspection on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 3:00 PM.

The journey from London to Broadstairs

Trains from St Pancras to Broadstairs run along the High Speed 1 (HS1) line to Ebbsfleet, then onto the Chatham Main Line, before branching off onto the Kent Coast Line at Faversham.

You'll be underground for most of the first stretch up to Ebbsfleet, but you might catch a view of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park when the train goes overground briefly around Stratford. The whole trip takes around 1 hour 23 minutes to 1 hour 36 minutes.

• Best side for views: You'll want to be on the right-hand side for a glimpse of Rochester Castle just after you cross the Medway from Strood.
• The "you're nearly there" cue: The countryside of the Dane Valley and St Peter's will change to houses — these are the Broadstairs suburbs.

The journey from London Victoria to Broadstairs takes around 1 hour 49 minutes, with trains going down the Chatham Main Line as far as Faversham before branching off onto the Kent Coast Line.
