London Euston: Getting to the Platform

• The Platform Tip: Platforms for Manchester services are typically announced shortly before boarding, so it’s best to keep an eye on the departure boards on the main concourse rather than heading to a platform early.
• Pre-Departure: The concourse has a good range of cafés and shops for a pre-departure coffee or snack, with other sit-down options just outside on Euston Road. The Northern and Victoria lines run directly beneath the main concourse at Euston Underground station, with additional Underground connections (Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines) from Euston Square nearby. Taxis and buses stop just outside the main entrance.  

Onboard trains from London Euston to Manchester

The two-hour journey north passes through some of England's most varied scenery, from London's outer suburbs through the open Midlands and into the hills of the North West.

• The View Alert: Sit on the left-hand side heading north for the best views. The landscape gradually opens out through Staffordshire and Cheshire, with green fields and rolling hills replacing the urban sprawl of Greater London.
• Key Landmarks: Once past Stoke-on-Trent, look out for the distinctive bottle kilns on the skyline, remnants of the city's famous pottery industry. While on the approach to Manchester, it’s hard to miss the impressive Stockport Viaduct, one of the largest brick railway viaducts in the world.

Arriving at Manchester Piccadilly

• The Main Concourse Exit: Head out of the station via the main concourse for the quickest route into central Manchester. The Northern Quarter and the Arndale Centre are around a 10-minute walk away.
• The Fairfield Street Exit: Use this exit for taxis, car pick-ups and direct access to the Metrolink stop.
• Onward Travel: Much of central Manchester is walkable from the station. For Oxford Road, the universities and beyond, buses depart from Piccadilly Gardens, just a short walk away.
