• The View Alert: Sit on the right-hand side for the best views of the Pennines as the train climbs through the moorland between Manchester and Huddersfield. Arriving in Yorkshire, the landscape then opens out as the line drops down towards Leeds and York beyond.
• Key Landmarks: The Pennine crossing between Manchester and Huddersfield takes the train through some of the most dramatic upland scenery in northern England, with open moorland rising steeply on either side. One of the great railway arrivals in the north of England, on your approach into York, the towers of York Minster appear above the surrounding rooftops.

Arriving at York

One of the finest Victorian stations in England, York sits just outside the medieval city walls, with its historic centre only minutes away on foot. The station features a sweeping curved train shed, among the largest of its kind in Britain, which stretches across most of the platforms and opens onto a well-connected main concourse.

• The Station Road Exit: The main exit leads out onto Station Road and towards the historic city centre. York Minster, The Shambles and the medieval city walls are all just about a 10-minute walk away.
• The National Railway Museum Link: A footbridge from within the station connects directly to the National Railway Museum, one of the world's largest collections of railway history and well worth a visit.
• Onward Travel: Taxis and local buses depart from outside the entrance on Station Road. Much of York's historic centre is easily reached on foot, with most major attractions just a short walk from the station.
