London Northwestern Railway (LNR - one of the subsidiaries of the West Midlands Trains) operates the Hemel Hempstead to London Euston route. LNR removed First Class from its trains on 21 May 2023, so there's only Standard Class available. Here's what to expect on board.

  • Route 4: from Gadebridge, Chaulden, Grove Hill and Highfield
  • Route 3: from Grove Hill and Highfield

Onboard trains from Hemel Hempstead to London Euston

LNR's trains run down the West Coast Main Line's "DC" slow lines toward central London. All services call at Apsley, Kings Langley, Watford Junction, Bushey, Harrow & Wealdstone, Wembley Central and Stonebridge Park before terminating at Euston. 
Slower stopping services may also call at Carpenders Park, Hatch End and Headstone Lane — check your timetable before travel.

The route passes through the Hertfordshire countryside south of Hemel Hempstead before joining the north London suburbs from Harrow & Wealdstone onwards. As Euston is a terminus, your "nearly there" cue is the train slowing on the final approach into the platforms after Stonebridge Park.

  • The View Alert: Sit on the left hand side of the train facing forward for views of the Grand Union Canal and Apsley Paper Mill shortly after leaving Hemel Hempstead. If there's room to change seats, as soon as you enter London, go to the right hand side for views of the Wembley Stadium arches.

Arriving at London Euston

London Euston is on Euston Road in central London, with direct tube, bus and onward rail connections. 

The station has two ground-level exits:

  • The Euston Road (south) exit leads onto Euston Road. Use this for Euston Square Gardens (2 minutes), University College Hospital (5 minutes via Gower Street), the British Library (10 minutes east) and St Pancras International / King's Cross (around 15 minutes east).
  • The Eversholt Street (north) exit is the quickest way to reach Camden Town, which is around 20 minutes north on foot up Eversholt Street.
Getting from the station

Buses depart from stops A–P on Euston Road, Eversholt Street and Melton Street. Remember, London buses are cashless, so pay with a contactless card or device. Useful routes include.

  • Route 1: to Aldwych, Waterloo and Canada Water from Stops B, M, N; or north to Hampstead Heath, Belsize Park and Camden Town from Stops A, K, L
  • Route 18: to Baker Street, Marylebone, Edgware Road, Harlesden and Wembley Central from Stops E, H, P
  • Route 30: to King's Cross St Pancras, Hackney and Dalston Junction from Stops H, P
  • Route 73: to Goodge Street, Oxford Circus and Stoke Newington from Stops H, P
  • Route 91: to King's Cross St Pancras, Islington Angel, Holloway Nags Head and Russell Square from Stops C, K, L
  • Route 205: to Goodge Street, Oxford Circus, Paddington and Marylebone from Stops H, P; or east to Angel, King's Cross, Old Street, Liverpool Street and Whitechapel from Stop D
  • Route 253: to Mornington Crescent, Camden Town, Hackney Central and Stamford Hill from Stops A, G
  • Route 390: to Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Victoria Bus Station and Hyde Park Corner from Stops H, P; or to Archway, Tufnell Park and St Pancras International from Stop C
The main taxi rank is on Melton Street. The direct route from the concourse involves steps, so if you have mobility needs, use the accessible taxi pick-up point via the lifts.
Onward Underground connections
  • Northern line (north to Camden Town, Archway and Edgware; south to Tottenham Court Road, London Bridge and Waterloo)
  • Victoria line (north to King's Cross St Pancras, Finsbury Park and Walthamstow Central; south to Oxford Circus, Victoria and Brixton). 
Keep in mind that there's no interchange between the two lines inside the station — you have to exit and re-enter through the other entrance. For the Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines, Euston Square station is around 300 metres away on Euston Road.
