Departing from Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport’s railway station is at the South Terminal, just five minutes away from departures and arrivals. A free two-minute shuttle runs to/from the North Terminal. The station is also served by local Metrobus and Gatwick Hoppa (24-hour) buses as well as national coach services.

Rail services from Gatwick Airport run to/from London Victoria, Luton Airport Parkway, Eastbourne, Cambridge and other stations in the South of England. Trains are operated by Great Western Railway, Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink.

Arriving at Guildford

Trains from Gatwick Airport to Guildford arrive just five minutes from the town centre. Guildford railway station is the more frequently served of the town’s two stations. Services operated by Great Western Railway and South Western Railway travel between Guildford and stations such as Farnham, Portsmouth Harbour, London Waterloo and Woking.

Onward local transport includes route 53 on Station Approach and buses 1, 4, 8, 46 and N1 from nearby bus stops. Guildford station also has a taxi rank. There’s plenty to do once you arrive. Head to Guildford Castle’s Great Tower for views of the riverside town and beyond. The nave of the Guildford Cathedral and medieval Undercroft are unmissable sights. The town offers plenty of markets throughout the week. Sample local meat, fruit and vegetables as well as baked goods from the North Street Market and Guildford Farmer’s Market.

• Standard Class: Standard Class coaches on Great Western Railway trains have comfortable seating with tables, free Wi-Fi access, power sockets and luggage space. Book ahead to buy cheap train tickets.
• First Class: Travelling from Gatwick to Guildford First Class allows you to enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks in quieter coaches with cosy individual seating. GWR also has First Class lounges to wait in for journeys to/from London Paddington and Cardiff.

Great Western Railway train travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring three pieces of luggage on board. The maximum size for suitcase-sized bags is limited to 25 x 40 x 75 centimetres.
• Bicycles: Great Western Railway recommends reserving a space for your bike or e-bike. Reservations are compulsory on the Night Riviera Sleeper. E-scooters are no longer permitted on board.
• Children: Up to two under-5s can travel free, and children aged 5–15 pay half the adult fare. 16–17-year-olds get 50% off Anytime, Off-Peak, Advance and Season tickets with the 16–17 Saver Railcard.
• Pets: Up to two dogs or small pets can travel when kept on a lead or in a pet carrier. They should also stay off the seats. Additional pets cost half the adult fare.
• Passenger Assist: Request assistance, such as transferring between trains, no more than two hours before your journey. It may take longer to get help if you haven’t pre-booked.
