TfW trains offer excellent luggage space on both their Civity and Express Sprinter units.

• Overhead rack: Wide enough for standard cabin bags, with even the older Express Sprinter trains providing deep racks here. Civity trains have transparent glass overhead racks, making it much less likely you’ll forget your bags.
• Under-seat space: Civity trains have cantilever frames, so no legs obstruct this space on newer trains – put rucksacks or laptops here. Older Express Sprinter units, however, offer limited space here, although if you’re sitting in back-to-back seats, there is usually a small V-shaped gap between the seats where you can fit smaller items.
• Luggage stacks:  You’ll find large luggage areas in the middle of the coach on Civity trains, while they’re located at the ends of the carriage near the doors on Express Sprinter trains. These stacks are where you can fit large suitcases.

Birmingham International station is a highly accessible station that serves Birmingham Airport and the Birmingham National Exhibition Centre, with a free shuttle from the airport, a multi-storey car park and a bridge link connecting the station to the NEC.

• Finding your platform: The station has 5 platforms. TfW trains to Shrewsbury head Northbound, usually departing from Platform 1 and occasionally Platform 2.
• Departure board check: Always check the departure board to be sure of your platform. The screen may display the final destination of the route instead of your destination – in this case, you may be looking for Aberystwyth or Holyhead.

Arriving at Shrewsbury station

• The Main Exit (Castle Foregate/Town): A ground floor exit leading to the front of the station. Take this exit if you’re heading to the town centre/Shrewsbury Castle or The Quarry park. The main taxi rank is also located outside these doors, as well as local bus stops on Smithfield Road or the nearby Shrewsbury bus station.
• The Dana Exit (Prison/Rear): Located at the far end of the station platforms, this exit takes you across a pedestrian footbridge. Take this exit to go to Shrewsbury Prison (The Dana) or northern residential areas like Castlefields.
