Wimbledon train station

Wimbledon station provides an interchange between two National Rail services, the London Underground and Tramlink routes. Wimbledon’s first train station opened in 1838, with the original building located south of the current station across Wimbledon Bridge. In the early 1950s, an Airedale Terrier named Laddie worked at Wimbledon station collecting donations for the Southern Railwaymen’s Homes at Woking. He collected over £5,000 via the box on his back by his retirement in 1956. A stuffed Laddie in a glass case was in the station after he died in 1960 until 1990, which continued to collect donations.

A roundabout serving as a drop-off point for passengers was removed from the station forecourt in 2011. But drivers and passengers needn’t worry - a taxi rank and car park are available at Wimbledon station. The station also has free wireless internet hotspots, shops, cash machines and waiting rooms.

Travellers can book train tickets online for collection at the ticket machines. Ticket offices at the entrances and in the main booking hall are open from early morning until evening.
