Offering mainline services from Charing Cross to Kent via London Bridge, Waterloo East station is a central London station. As the name may suggest, it is located to the east of London Waterloo, and a walkway links the two stations. Waterloo East opened its doors in 1869 as Waterloo Junction, introducing a link between the South Eastern Railway at Charing Cross and Waterloo’s London and South Western Railway. The footpath between Waterloo East and Waterloo was once a dedicated line built between the stations.
Waterloo East initially had two platforms, with ticket offices and the waiting room built under the line. Waterloo East’s current name was given to the station in 1977. The four platforms are lettered to avoid confusion with the numbered platforms at London Waterloo. Waterloo East has ticket machines only (book in advance for cheap train tickets). There are shops, toilets and a heated waiting room during staffed hours.
Getting to and from London Waterloo East
A direct link from Waterloo East to Southwark Tube station is at the eastern ends of the platforms, connecting you to the Jubilee line. For the Bakerloo, Northern and Waterloo & City lines, connections are available from Waterloo Tube station. A walkway takes you to Waterloo railway station, which has escalators leading to the Tube. Many buses and night routes serve the station. There is no cycle storage, taxi rank or car park. Drivers and passengers may want to use the facilities at Waterloo station.

Southeastern runs all services to and from Waterloo East. Platforms B and D are for trains to Charing Cross, and services running in the other direction depart from platforms A and C.
