Grantham is a market town in Lincolnshire, close to Nottingham. So, it takes just over one hour to get from Grantham to London with either LNER or Hull Trains.
You’ll head south down the East Coast Mainline towards London on your trip. Passing through a rainbow of colourful countryside from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire up north to Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire down south.
LNER operates on the East Coast Main Line, connecting Eastern Scotland and Northern England cities to London, with key stops like Stevenage, Newcastle, and York. Hull Trains operates a regular service between Hull and London Kings Cross that runs exclusively on the East Coast Mainline.
Departing from Grantham
Grantham Train Station is just off the A52, along Station Road, near the town centre. It’s a picturesque station that dates all the way back to 1852.
It’s a convenient station to depart from, as it’s accessible by taxis from the town centre, which can drop you off right at the station's entrance. Local buses also serve the station.
East Midlands Railway, LNER, and Hull Trains currently run through Grantham.
Main stops
Only two stations separate Grantham from London when travelling with LNER: Peterborough and Stevenage. Yet, if you travel with Hull Trains there are no stops.
This may change due to scheduling alterations, planned construction work, or poor weather. So, it’s advised that you check before you travel to make sure.

Arriving at London Kings Cross

Just outside the entrance to the station, you’ll find King’s Cross London Underground station that runs on the Circle, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria, Hammersmith & City, and Metropolitan lines. From here, you could get to London Liverpool Street, say, or Heathrow Airport, in a flash.
The station is plentifully served by buses and taxis near the station. If you have onward connections elsewhere, then St Pancras International Station is only a two-minute walk away.
There’s so much to do nearby as well. If you need some shut-eye after your trip down to London, then there are plenty of London’s swankiest hotels near King’s Cross, or, if you’re in the mood for exploring, the British Museum, beautiful Bloomsbury and the Gagosian Gallery are at your beck and call nearby.
