West Midlands Railway train classes

• Standard Class: Only Standard Class accommodation is available on West Midlands Railway services. Trains are mostly fitted with a 2+2 seating layout, including power sockets. Passengers have free WiFi access. Book in advance to buy cheap train tickets.

West Midlands Railway train travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring up to three items of luggage on board. Make sure your luggage is properly packed and does not block doorways; every carriage provides storage for large items and overhead racks for smaller bags.
• Bicycles: Bike spaces are on a first-come, first-served basis, but non-folding bikes aren’t allowed during peak hours. Hoverboards and e-scooters are not permitted.
• Children: Under-5s travel free. Kids aged 5–15 and 16–17 Saver Railcard holders get 50% off. Up to four children can get £1 Off-Peak tickets to/from the capital with the London Family Travelcard.
• Pets: Passengers can travel with two dogs or small pets on a lead or in a pet carrier. Animals mustn’t sit on seats.
• Passenger Assist: Ask for advice when planning your journey or any other help, like boarding the train while travelling.

CrossCountry train classes

• Standard Class: Travellers get free Wi-Fi in all Standard Class carriages. You can also use the dedicated luggage areas, overhead racks, and buy hot and cold refreshments on most services between 06:00 and 20:00. Buy cheap train tickets when booking in advance.
• First Class: CrossCountry’s Birmingham to Wolverhampton First Class amenities include complimentary food and drinks, quieter carriages with larger reclining seats and extra table space.

CrossCountry train travel advice

• Luggage: Passengers can bring one small bag, one medium bag and one large suitcase up to 90 x 70 x 30 centimetres.
• Bicycles: Reserving a space is advised. E-bikes cannot exceed 250 watts. CrossCountry doesn’t allow e-scooters on board.
• Children: 5–15-year-olds get 50% off most fares. Under-5s travel free with an adult. The 16–17 Saver Railcard offers teens half-price tickets. The Family and Friends Railcard offers discounts for up to four adults and four kids.
• Pets: Two pets can board free of charge. They should be in a carrier or on a lead and kept off seats.
• Passenger Assist: You can request assistance, from handling luggage to alighting the train. Book by phone or use the text relay service or the Transreport app or form.

Avanti West Coast train classes

• Standard Class: Relax in comfy seats and get Wi-Fi access in Standard Class coaches. Plug sockets are located by some tables and window seats.
• Standard Premium Class: On top of some of the benefits from First Class, Standard Premium includes wider, more comfortable seats and additional legroom. Each window seat is fitted with a plug socket.
• First Class: Enjoy complimentary refreshments, a table at your seat, and access to the Avanti West Coast First Class Lounge in Birmingham New Street. It’s located in the blue zone. Lounges offer free WiFi, charging points and complimentary food and drink.

Avanti West Coast train travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring pieces no bigger than 30 x 70 x 90 centimetres. They should be stowed in luggage racks or above your seat.
• Bicycles: Bike space reservations are free of charge and compulsory. You should have a copy of your reservation on board.
• Children: Under-5s travel for free, and 5–15-year-olds get 50% off. Most tickets are half price for 16–17 Saver Railcard holders. With the Family & Friends Railcard, you get up to 60% off child fares and 1/3 off adult tickets. 
• Pets: Keep dogs and small pets on a lead or in a pet carrier. Animals mustn’t occupy seats during the entire journey.
• Passenger Assist: You can request assistance for your journey, such as using ramps, up to two hours before departure. Alternatively, let station staff know what help you need.

Transport for Wales train classes

• Standard Class: Passengers in Standard Class can enjoy comfy seating and luggage storage. Most trains include free Wi-Fi and plug sockets per pair of seats. Refreshments can be purchased either from the food bar or the trolley.
• First Class: Transport for Wales does not currently offer First Class accommodation for journeys from Birmingham New Street to Wolverhampton. On other services, First Class carriages have wider, more comfortable seats, and certain routes serve complimentary drinks and snacks.

• Luggage: Three items (up to two large bags and one smaller handbag or backpack) are allowed per passenger.
