Unlock great Renfe discounts for students, graduates and young professionals. For just €50, 14–25-year-olds can save on Renfe trains for an entire year with the Más Renfe Joven Card. Get 30% off AVE high-speed services, Larga Distancia (long-distance) trains and AVE International journeys between Spain and France. For Media Distancia (mid-distance), Avant (mid-distance high-speed) and Cercanías/Rodalies (commuter) trains, card holders save 25%. Certain tickets purchased with the discount card are amendable and refundable (restrictions and fees may apply based on the ticket type). Más Renfe Joven Cards can be renewed 60 days before they expire.

Alternative Renfe ticket discounts for young people are available with the Carné Joven (Youth Card), issued by autonomous communities in Spain to local residents. The typical eligible age range is 14–30 years old. Card holders save 20% on Avant and mid-distance services, as well as regional trains on the Renfe Cercanías AM network (formally known as the Feve network). A 5% discount is applied to tickets for AVE and long-distance trains.

If you live abroad, you may be able to use your young person’s card as a youth train pass in Spain. Valid cards include the European Youth Card (EYC), International Student Identity Card (ISIC) and International Youth Travel Card (IYTC).

Renfe discounts for kids

Travelling with the family is affordable thanks to Renfe ticket discounts for children. Free Child tickets are available for under 4, so long as they do not occupy a seat. Kids aged 4–13 get 40% off all trains year-round, and their ticket includes seat selection.

On Larga Distancia (long-distance) journeys, AVE high-speed trains and AVE International routes between Spain and France, under 14 must be accompanied by an adult or use the unaccompanied minors service (available on most trains). Under 18 require the necessary travel documents to board international services. Elige (Standard Plus) and Prémium (First Class) tickets are amendable and refundable. Refund amounts and terms vary. Tickets for Avant (mid-distance high-speed) and Media Distancia (mid-distance) trains cannot be modified. A 15% fee will be charged for refunds.

Note: Commuter services have different terms for free travel. While under 6 can travel free on Cercanías trains (max. two per adult), free travel on Rodalies trains in Barcelona is offered to under 4.

Tarjeta Dorada (Golden Card) discounts for seniors and disabled passengers

With the Tarjeta Dorada (Golden Card), seniors aged 60+ and disabled travellers (with a degree of disability of at least 33%) get amazing Renfe train deals. All AVE (high-speed), AVE International (Spain–France) and Larga Distancia (long-distance) fares are 25% off. The same discount applies to Avant (mid-distance high-speed) journeys on weekdays, rising to 40% on weekends. Passengers get up to 40% off Media Distancia (mid-distance) train tickets.

Tarjeta Dorada discounts

Tarjeta Dorada benefits also include companion tickets. Card holders with 65% disability or more can buy a ticket with the same discounts for someone travelling with them. From 2026, fares for H seats (wheelchair spaces) will be fixed at €7 on AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed and Intercity trains, in addition to AVE International services to/from France.

The Tarjeta Dorada costs €6 for one year, €12 for two years and €15 for three years. Passes can be easily renewed online up to 90 days before expiry. Depending on the ticket type, bookings with a Tarjeta Dorada allow changes or cancellations, which may be subject to charges. Offers can’t be combined with any other Renfe ticket discount (excluding those for Tarjeta Familia Numerosa (Large Family Certificate) holders).

Support for large families with a Tarjeta Familia Numerosa (Large Family Certificate) issued by the local autonomous community also extends to rail travel in Spain. The Renfe family discount rate depends on the category a family falls under:

Renfe train deals for general-category large families

General-category families (e.g., with three or more children) get up to 20% off all national Renfe rail services, from Cercanías/Rodalies (commuter) trains to AVE high-speed routes.

Renfe ticket discounts for special-category large families

Families under the special category, such as those with five or more kids, can save up to 50% on the same trains.

Note: Renfe family discounts aren’t valid on fares for AVE International trains between Spain and France. Tickets for Larga Distancia (long-distance) and AVE services can be amended or refunded if permitted by the ticket type.

Travelling around Spain in a group of 4–9 people? Save even more with a “4 o más” (4 or more) group booking. An 8% discount is applied to the total fare for AVE (high-speed), AVE International (Spain–France) and Larga Distancia (long-distance) services. And it doesn’t stop there. 4–13-year-olds save 40% on their Renfe tickets. Bookings can also include free tickets for under 4 (without seats). Renfe family discounts for Tarjeta Familia Numerosa (Large Family Certificate) holders can also be used in conjunction with group savings.
