Orpington train station

Located between Petts Wood and Chelsfield on the South Eastern Main Line, Orpington station has regular services to central London and Kent. The station opened in 1868, coinciding with the completion of the South Eastern Railway’s cut-off line between Chislehurst and Sevenoaks. A 1904 rebuild introduced new platforms to the station.

Parts of the former farming estate Crofton Roman Villa, estimated to have been inhabited between 140 and 400 AD, were discovered when workers found Roman artefacts while building a driveway for new council offices. Located to the west of the entrance to Orpington, a railway cutting in the late 1800s partially destroyed some of the remains. Ten rooms can be visited today.

Orpington station has a ticket office, machines to buy or collect tickets, seating areas and heated waiting rooms on platforms 1/2 and 3/4. A coffee shop is in the station, as well as a vending machine on platform 2. Orpington has been fully accessible since 2008.
