Denmark Hill train station

Denmark Hill is a south-east London interchange station. The gorgeous Italianate-style architecture was designed by Charles Henry Driver, a renowned Victorian-era architect and pioneer of ornamental iron work. Built between 1864 and 1866, the station’s building doesn’t lack in detailed features, with French pavilion roofs and a decorative frontage.

Denmark Hill, typically known as a railway station, unexpectedly served as a church site at one time. Transforming the waiting room with an altar, in 1920, the congregation of the Mystical Church of the Comforter gathered to sing hymns and attend services as the station staff continued work. They even held funerals, baptisms and a marriage ceremony!

While you’ll no longer find worshipers in the station, Denmark Hill and the surrounding area have everything you may need. Toilets (including accessible toilets), baby changing facilities, waiting rooms and seating are all available within the station. Refreshments can also be purchased.
