Located on Euston Road and just a ten-minute walk from both London King’s Cross and London St Pancras International stations, London Euston is an easily accessible major rail hub in London’s zone 1, connecting cities in the North and West of England with the capital. It can be reached via taxi, bus and London Underground services, with direct access to the Northern and Victoria lines. It’s also just a five-minute walk to Euston Square station on the Circle line for additional tube services.

Managed by Network Rail, London Euston station offers step-free access, accessible ticket machines, baby changing, accessible toilets, and a First Class Lounge. It’s served by operators including Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway and Great Western Railway, with regular services to destinations such as Birmingham, Manchester, and Glasgow. As well as the Caledonian Sleeper to Scotland, from Euston there’s also the option of taking the Night Riviera sleeper train to Cornwall.

On London Euston to Windermere train routes, Avanti West Coast services stop at Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western and Preston before arriving at Lancaster where you can change onto the Northern service to Windermere, calling at Oxenholme Lake District, Kendal, Burneside and Staveley en route.

Arriving at Windermere station

Located on Station Road, Windermere station marks the end of the Lakes Line and the perfect starting point from which to discover the UK’s celebrated Lake District. Just a short walk from the town centre, the station connects travellers with other towns in the Lake District, including Kendal and Oxenholme as well as destinations further afield via Lancaster and the West Coast Main Line.

Exit Windermere station and enter the Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its outstanding natural beauty and culture. Discover more about the lake at the Windermere Jetty Museum, head out onto Lake Windermere for a tranquil cruise, or admire the stunning arts and crafts of Blackwell House. Walkers can enjoy sweeping views over the fells on hikes to nearby Orrest Head, while families can discover the delights of the World of Beatrix Potter, just a couple of miles away.

Avanti West Coast and Northern train classes 

• Standard Class: You can enjoy the comfort and convenience of Wi-Fi onboard both Avanti West Coast and Northern services, while Avanti West Coast Standard Class also features at-seat plug sockets, as well as the option to Click & Collect from the onboard shop.
• Standard Premium : Settle into Standard Premium on board your Avanti West Coast train with roomier seats, extra legroom, and guaranteed tables with plug sockets. There is no Standard Premium service on Northern trains.
• First Class: Travel London Euston to Windermere First Class with Avanti West Coast and enjoy at-seat service, complementary food and drink (including alcohol), and pre-departure lounge access at London Euston. There is no First Class service on Northern trains.

Avanti West Coast and Northern train travel advice

• Luggage: You can bring luggage for free on both Avanti West Coast and Northern services. Avanti West Coast allows up to three items, while Northern permits a reasonable amount, using overhead racks, under-seat space and luggage areas.
• Bikes: Both Avanti West Coast and Northern services welcome passengers travelling with a standard bike or e-bike. Avanti West Coast, however, does require advance reservations for bikes, and Northern operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Folding bikes are welcome on both, while e-scooters are not allowed on either service.
• Children: On both services, children under 5 can travel for free, while older kids aged between 5-15 are eligible to receive a 50% discount on standard fares. Teenagers with a 16-17 Saver railcard can also make use of half-price travel on Avanti West Coast services. 
• Pets: Both Avanti West Coast and Northern allow passengers to travel with up to two small pets per person for free. Dogs should be kept on leads, and small pets should be transported in secure carriers.
• Passenger Assist: Passenger Assist services, including help with boarding, navigating stations, managing luggage or booking wheelchair spaces, are available from both operators. The service can be reserved in advance while booking your ticket or via the app.
