Wandsworth Town station is located in the London Borough of Wandsworth in south-west London. It is about 4 miles (7.6 km) from the central London terminus, London Waterloo. Wandsworth Town opened in 1846 upon completion of the Nine Elms to Richmond line.

In the 1880s, the London and South Western Railway expanded multiple stations, with Wandsworth Town increasing capacity across four tracks and four platforms in 1886. The station in the early 1960s had maintained the majority of its features from these works.
