Bromley South train station
Bromley South is a station in south-east London. Originally formed of two platforms, the station opened in the mid-19th century. It is on the Chatham Main Line, which saw the first electric trains running in Kent between London, Bromley South and Orpington in the 1920s. By the late 1950s, the last steam trains alighting at Bromley South were in operation. The station was also served by locomotive-hauled trains to and from coastal Kent, the West Midlands, the North West of England and even Scotland from 1986 to 1999.
The present-day station has an additional two platforms. Platform 1 is for services to central London, while trains departing from platform 2 go towards Orpington or Sevenoaks. Non-stop trains to Victoria pass through platform 3, and platform 4 is typically for services to Dover Priory or Ramsgate.
Amenities at Bromley South include cash machines, shops and food outlets (including WHSmith and a coffee kiosk), toilets and baby changing facilities (in the women’s toilets), and machines to buy train tickets. The ticket office is open 06:00–21:30 Monday to Friday, 06:20–21:30 on Saturday, and 06:40–21:30 on Sunday.
