Sutton station is the town’s main railway station. It may also be referred to as Sutton (Surrey) on some tickets and timetables. Sutton’s arrival on the railway network happened in 1847, with the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway opening a new line from West Croydon to Epsom. Several branches off the line were soon constructed, including the Epsom Downs branch in 1865 and the line to Mitcham Junction in 1868.
