Richmond (London) train station
Richmond station is an important transport hub and interchange station in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Over 8 million passengers travel through the station annually, with services covering Greater London and surrounding counties.
Opening in 1846 as the terminus of the Richmond and West End Railway line from Clapham Junction, the station was initially south of Richmond’s current platforms. The original site was later used as a goods yard before becoming a multi-storey car park. Richmond station’s building was designed by James Robb Scott in an Art Deco style. Perhaps the most distinctive element is the square clock on its façade. Recent refurbishments, including cleaning the Portland stonework and redecorating using the original heritage colours, have brought these historic features back to life.
